When it comes to juicing, you might be having trouble deciding whether to go for a masticating juicer, or whether to go for a centrifugal juicer.
It is a tough decision, right?
It is....or at least it was for me.
Before I decided to go for a masticating juicer, I did a lot of research online.
If I do need to pay more for a juicer, I do want to know what the benefits are.
Drawbacks Of A Masticating Juicer - Quick Thought
For me, the only drawback was the price difference.
We know that the price of a masticating juicer is a bit higher than that of a centrifugal juicer.
Having said that, once I learned a few of the benefits, the price didn't seem so important.
Anyway, the price of a masticating juicer has decreased over the last few years, and it now kind of blurs in with the price of a mid range centrifugal juicer.
Quick Re-Cap, before you go on.
What we know about masticating juicers:
- They juice slower than centrifugal juicers.
- Juice is 'chewed' out of the fruit/vegetables.
- The price is slightly higher, when compared.
- They produce drier pulp.
What Are The Benefits Of Using A Masticating Juicer?
This post is about the benefits of using a masticating juicer, so I do not want to go into too much detail about how they work.
When you are weighing up the options, it is really important to know the benefits so that you can make an informed decision.
Speaking of the benefits, what are the top 5?
Extra Juice = Extra Vitamins
When your body is lacking in vitamins and minerals, you will see certain symptoms (Of course, this depends entirely on which vitamin you are lacking in!).
A recent article explains that most U.S. adults don’t meet their recommended daily levels of 10 essential nutrients. That is extremely concerning!
Our bodies rely on vitamins and minerals, without them, it does not function correctly.
Symptoms may include:
Frail bones - a symptom of vitamin D deficiency
Weak, thin hair and nails - a symptom of vitamin C deficiency
Tiredness and lethargy - a symptom of iron or magnesium deficiency
Week immune system - a symptom of vitamin C, E, B6 Magnesium or Zinc deficiency
Unable to sleep - a symptom of vitamin E deficiency
Depression - a symptom of Chromium, Calcium, Iron or Zinc deficiency
I am sure you can understand exactly how important it is to provide your body with the correct amount of vitamins an minerals.
The process a masticating juicer uses to extract juice, results in a much richer juice, with more vitamin and mineral content. The more juice extracted, the more it will provide your body with exactly what it needs.
If you suffer from any of the symptoms above, it is well worth considering the possibility that you are deficient, but it is extremely important you check with a healthcare professional before diagnosing yourself!
If I could wish for one thing, it would be for more time in the day to get things done.
I am certain I am not the only ones who would wish for that!
In this day an age, we want convenience.
Unfortunately, this is one of the main reasons there are so many unhealthy people.
It is too easy to eat unhealthy foods, which has resulted in an increase in:
Creating a juice may take a bit of preparation (and time for cleaning!) but the result is a small meal/snack in a glass, how convenient is that?
If you are due to me on the move tomorrow, why not spend time creating a couple of juices for tomorrows travel?
Keep it in the fridge and you are good to go in the morning with a couple of healthy drinks to fill the void between breakfast/lunch/dinner.
Better Tasting Juice
As you read above, using a masticating juicer will result in a much richer juice.
You can see just how much juice is extracted by looking at the pulp when it has finished.
A masticating juicer will give you drier pulp. A centrifugal juicer does not.
You will get up to 30% more juice too, so more bang for your buck!
They Are Quiet!
I have a small child, and it is fantastic when he is asleep!
Don't get me wrong, he is tremendous fun when he is awake, but getting my stuff done is a challenge.
If you have a kid, you know what I am talking about!
If you choose to do your juicing at night (and why not!) then you will be pleasantly surprised with the noise, or lack of noise, that a masticating juicer makes.
You can happily juice until your heart is content, any time of the day!
Longer Lasting Juicer
Let's be clear here, this is a longer last JUICER, not JUICE.
Although, as the fruit and vegetables are crushed/chewed by a masticating juicer (Hence the name!) the fruit does not start oxidizing as quick as it does when using a centrifugal juicer.
That does give you extra shelf life for your juice.
This is the life of the actual juicer we are talking about here.
A masticating juicer works much, much slower - around 50-200RPM. Let's compare that to a centrifugal juicer up to 20,000 RPM.
When machinery works slower, the life of the machine is increased. This is reflected in the warranty offered on many of the juicers.
I have seen up to a 20-year warranty on a masticating juicer! How about that for peace of mind.
When I had the decision in front of me - Masticating or Centrifugal - I did a lot of research and found a lot more pros than cons for masticating juicers.
The decision ended up being a very simple one.
When you look at the benefits identified above, it makes it an easy choice.
Do you want a better juice, more nutrients, quieter action, and a long-lasting juicer? Or do you want a quicker juicer that doesn't extract as much juice, is noisy and wears out quicker?
If the decision is to go for a masticating juicer, why not take a look at the best options!
