The Omega VSJ843 is the newest hi-end vertical masticating juicer that was released by Omega in 2014. It has brand new features that make it one of the best cold press juicers in the market today.
Omega VSJ843 Review in-Depth
This juicer is the slowest, single auger, vertical masticating juicer available in the US market at this point in time. Even within the name of model, there’s a hint of the number of revolutions per minute – 843. The Omega VSJ843 operates at a speed of 43 RPM that ensures natural flavor and promotes the high levels of enzymes and nutrients that are so necessary for people’s well-being and state of health.
Apart from less juice oxidation, the lower speed has more benefits such as:
- The ability to store the juice for a longer time.
- Less foam and pulp in the juice.
- A quiet operation.
The VSJ843 is the first juicer that utilizes the Slow Squeezing Technology which is designed to extract the maximum amount of juice, healthy nutrients, vitamins and enzymes from a minimum amount of the produce such as veggies, fruits, leafy greens and soy beans. The amount of pulp in the juice is also reduced by using the SST method.
One of the most important differences between the Omega VSJ843 and previous Omega masticating juicers (VRT350, VRT330 and VRT400) is a new auger design. It has two wings on the top whereas the previous juicers only have one.
This twin-wing design feeds food into the juicer twice as fast as it does in the previous models. That’s why the speed of juicing is about the same, regardless of having the less revolutions per minute rate. The top of the auger looks like this…
The auger shape is a little bit different as well On the bottom, it has a hole insert that ensures that any pulp residuals that doesn’t enter the pulp container, won’t go into the juicing jug either. This auger design reduces the amount of pulp in your juice to a minimum level.
A juicing screen is more compact and the screen hole size has been refined. That means you get less pulp in your juice than you would get using the previous Omega VRT models. The strainer is made from stainless steel, except for a few plastic ridges.
The juicer utilizes a scraper wiper that has FOUR wiping blades. In comparison, the Breville BJS600XL Juice Fountain Crush has three wiping blades and previous Omega models have two. The more wiper blades the machine has, the smaller amount of pulp excess there will be after juicing. This makes cleaning easier than ever.
The new scraper wiper is driven, not by the special gear on the bottom of the juicing bowl, but by the two wings of the brand-new auger.
The juicing bowl is BPA-free and has a few new improvements. First off, the pulp ejection port has been expanded, so the process of pulp flowing out is a bit faster. Secondly, the juicing bowl comes with a pulp flap on the bottom that ensures the pulp won’t be ejected until the last ounce of juice has been extracted. Thirdly, due to the other design improvements, the juicing bowl now can measure up to 450 ml which is around 16 ounces, so this allows you to mix more ingredients in the juice at any given time.
Although the old proven methods of cold press juicing weren’t forgotten, this juicer uses the dual-stage juice extraction system. When the food is fed into the juicer, it’s crushed at the first stage and then processed to the second stage where the juice is squeezed out of it before it goes through the ejection port to the pulp container. This technology was used before and it resulted in the higher yields it’s producing now.
As with the previous models, the Omega SJ843 has a turn-on button as well as a reverse switch. It’s used when the engine gets stuck because too much produce has been pushed into the juicer at once.
With these improvements, the Omega VSJ843 yields more juice than older Omega models, not to mention centrifugal juicers. In the long term, that may save you spending too much money on the produce you’re going to squeeze.
To help mix the juice, perform cleaning and reduce drips, the all-new juicer has a juice tap over the juice outlet. I like this feature very much, despite the fact that when I first bought it, I didn’t pay much attention to it at all.
Despite the powerful motor and auger, the juicer is a quiet machine. It’s fair to say that the VSJ843 is in the TOP 3 list of the quietest masticating cold press juicers.
You should also note this machine’s self-cleaning feature. The only thing you have to do is pour water into (16 ounces of water is enough) the juicer and let it clean itself automatically for a minute or so. The cleaning has never been as easy as it is now with the VSJ843 juicer!
Omega is known for their warranties and the Omega VSJ843 is no exception with a 15-year warranty on all parts and labor provided by the manufacturer.
FAQ About Omega VSJ843
What’s the difference between models VSJ843QS, VSJ843QR, VSJ843QW, VSJ843RS and VSJ43RR?
The letter ‘S’ at the end means silver colour, ‘R’ – red, ‘W’ – white. If you see the letter ‘Q’ that’s mean square design of the main body while R – round main base. There are no any other differences.
What sort of food I can juice using the Omega VSJ843 masticating juicer?
You can juice:
- Fruits (both hard and soft)
- Vegetables (hard and soft)
- Leafy greens
What’s better: the Omega VSJ843 or the Omega 8006?
They are both great juicers, yet the Omega VSJ843 has a few advantages over that horizontal juicer: it has a larger juicing screen surface which allows juicing to run more smoothly, it operates at a lower speed and has a smaller footprint as a vertical juicer. The quality of juice is great with both of these masticating juicers.
The Omega VSJ843 vs Hurom HU-100: what juicer is better and has a higher yield?
Definitely, the Omega VSJ843. It’s a bit pricier compared to the Hurom HU-100, yet it juices different sorts of food better (for instance, leafy greens) and extracts as much juice out of the produce as possible leaving only dry pulp. The Omega has a longer warranty as well – 15 years on parts and motor vs 10 year warranty on motor and 1 on parts.
Can it make almond milk or soy?
Yes, it does soy and almond milk.
How long it takes to juice a glass of juice?
It depends on what are you going to juice, but takes no more than 2-3 minutes on average. For example, celery is juicing more slowly than apples, pears or melons.
Is the housing BPA-free?
Yes, as is the chute.
